This trend came in April 2017. This ad was seen to be "tone-deaf" to the Black Lives Matter movement. The commercial was quickly pulled due to a viral backlash.

Women's March

This trend started in January 2017. An estimated 2.6 million people around the world marched in protest of Donald Trump's comments and alleged assaults on women. This trend began as a Facebook group.

Wonder Woman

This trend began in June of 2017. Wonder Woman became highest-grossing live-action film with a female director in history. As of December 5th, 2017 the film has grossed $821M worldwide.

Eclipse

This trend came in August of 2017. In parts of North America, witnessed a total solar eclipse on August 21. "How To Make Solar Eclipse Glasses" was the second most "How To" question googled in 2017.

This trend came in September 2017. This film was released on 8th September and was based on Stephen King's novel. IT became highest grossing horror film ever.

Slime

This trend began in June 2017. June was the peak of the DIY Slime trend in google searches. There were over 3.5 million Instagram posts tagged #slime.

Salt Bae

This trend came in February 2017. Salt Bae is a Turkish chef named Nusret Gokce. In the video, he strips and slices steak, and then sprinkles salt on it with a flourish.

The Floor Is Lava Challenge

This trend became huge in June 2017. This game is not new, but many credit Kevin Freshwater and Jahannah James with the challenge going viral.

April The Giraffe

This trend began in April 2017. This was a livestream of April the Giraffe giving birth has been watched nearly 15 million times on Facebook.

Bitcoin

This trend started recently in December of 2017. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. As of 12/12/2017, bitcoin reached an all-time peak of $17,428.42 .

This trend started in May of 2017. It is a toy. They have been around for years, marketed as aids for children with attention problem. But in 2017, they became something more recreational.
